Instead of preparing a game plan for a unique opponent by reviewing film or altering the lineup, girls basketball coach Peter Kenah thought up a different method leading up to his team’s Tuesday game.

On Monday, the girls practiced while wearing football pads to simulate the aggressiveness of today’s opponent.

The idea came from Michigan State, where Tom Izzo has coached the “best rebounding team in the nation,” Kenah said. On Tuesday, his girls team plays the Quince Orchard Cougars, a team known for being more physical than most, he said.

“I thought it would make them giggle, but it also reinforced the idea of staying physical,” Kenah said.

He also said he might use the strategy again for other similar opponents. Players enjoyed the unique drill and hope that it will improve their play in today’s game.

“It was fun and something different during practice,” senior Dani Okon said.
