Boys lacrosse uses dominant second half to beat Springbrook 10-3 in season opener

Boys lacrosse opened its season with a dominant 10-3 victory over the Springbrook Blue Devils Tuesday afternoon.

The team was led by midfielders Ben Montemarano and Jonathan Garner, who each scored twice. Garner filled in for captain Alex Hilsenrath, who was sidelined with a concussion.

“It was impressive to see some guys step up in the absence of some of our starters,” attacker Jack Bickford said. “Garner had a great game.”

After ending the first quarter tied at one, the Vikings pulled away in the second, scoring four goals to the Blue Devils’ two. In the second half, the Vikes added five more points and kept the Blue Devils scoreless.

Though the team’s solid performance gave them some momentum to start the season, a few aspects of the team’s game need polishing, Bickford said.

“Any win is always good and it’s definitely important that we started off with a win,” he said. “However, we played a little lackadaisical and we hope to improve throughout the season.”

The team will next play April 2 against the Bel Air Bobcats and Cambridge-South Dorchester Vikings.
