Poms took first place at the Damascus High School competition Saturday, winning their second straight competition in the Division III bracket.
The squad performed the same routine as it did at the Blake competition, but touched up a few aspects of the dance, sophomore Genevieve Meier said.
“We made small changes based on the corrections we got last competition and we cleaned most songs,” Meier said, “but because of the snow days, we didn’t have the chance to change a section.”
Despite the lack of practice time, poms was able to deliver a performance with even more enthusiasm and spirit.
“The captains’ choreography was amazing this year and really brought out our sass and energy,” Meier said.
Extra team bonding throughout the season has also pushed the squad to work harder for each other, which has proven beneficial at recent competitions, Meier said.
In addition to the Vikings’ overall success at the competition, senior Remy Fields finished in second for the captain’s award as the group’s acting captain.
Poms will look to take yet another first-place trophy at Counties, their last and most important competition, on Feb. 13 at RM.
