The boys lacrosse team ended their season Monday evening with a heartbreaking 1211 loss in double overtime to the Churchill Bulldogs.

The loss eliminates the Vikings from the playoffs this year and ends their season with a 125 overall record.

The Vikings started hot and led Churchill 62 at halftime. However, the Bulldogs rallied, scoring five in the third quarter while holding the Vikings to just one one to end the third quarter at a 77 stalemate.

The fourth quarter was back-and forth all the way to the end, but the Bulldogs managed to get up 11–10 as the clock ticked down. Vikings midfielder Alex Hilsenrath kept hope alive, scoring the tying goal with just one second remaining in regulation.

Hilsenrath’s goal pushed the game into sudden-death overtime, where the first team to score would win the game. The first overtime was uneventful and ended without a break in the tie.

In double overtime, Churchill midfielder Derek Altobello scored the game-winning goal for the Bulldogs.

The Viking offense had a solid performance all around.

“They all played like leaders.” said midfielder Gunnar Morton, “We couldn’t have played any better.”

The game marks the end of the high school career for many Vikings, including team co-captains Colin Hains and Alex Hosker as well as attacker Richard Miller, who broke the team record for most goals in a single game by scoring 11 against Einstein.

The Vikings played till the end and took a hard loss to one of the best teams in the state.

“We didn’t give up. We played relentlessly,” said midfielder Douglas Bruchalski.
