Girls tennis wins fourth straight match, improves to 7-3

The girls tennis team thrashed the Walter Johnson Wildcats 7-0 Thursday, extending their four-match winning streak.

The Vikings won all their matches in straight sets, a convincing performance and evidence of why they are a top-three team in the division.

“Everyone had great matches today,” third doubles player Olivia Matthews said. “We went in with a positive mindset and came out strong on top. I know a lot of the team, as well as [my partner Anna Marcus] and I, hope to continue playing as well as we did today as we go into the county tournament in a few weeks.”

Matthews and Marcus won their match 6-2, 6-2, and the first doubles team of Emilia Malachowski and Maggie McGowan dominated 6-0, 6-0.

“I think the team played very well because we were able to end the points early in order to win our matches,” said first singles player Sarinah Wahl, who won her match 6-0, 6-0. “With winning another match with confidence, we should be able to keep the winning streak alive for two more matches.”

The girls look to end their season strong next week when they travel to face the Poolesville Falcons on Tuesday. Their last home game is against the Springbrook Blue Devils next Thursday.
