The senior girls defeated the junior girls 14-7 as they squared off in the annual Powder Puff football game May 23.
The senior team’s offense, led by Lottie Nall’s long touchdown run, was critical in the outcome of the game.
A long pass from Kate O’Brien to Dani Okon scored the second touchdown for the seniors.
The junior team’s quarterback Bethany Mansfield and receiver Katherine Paterson exhibited strong leadership with their passing and teamwork.
“Bethany was definitely a standout player,” junior Katie Choppin said. “She has the best arm I’ve seen on any girl and was even better than some of the guys.”
The only touchdown of the game for the juniors came from an interception return from Paterson.
Down by seven, the juniors had possession of the ball with the clock winding down in the fourth quarter, but a clutch interception by Okon sealed the deal for the seniors.
“Our team was able to win through good defense, only allowing the other team to score seven points,” Nalls said.
The annual event generates a lot of competition between the junior and senior grades, who enjoy a friendly rivalry.
“There is just something between seniors and juniors,” senior Jordan Brossi said. “We were the juniors last year, and they’re gonna be us next year. We all just want to show who is really dominant, and for this year, the seniors were naturally the winners.”
