The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has announced that they will be extending the LLS High School Challenge until March 11 due to the heavy snow earlier this month. Some events will be rescheduled, including Movie Night and the Mamma Lucia Dine-out.
Whitman’s Mamma Lucia dine-out will now be March 2 and the movie night will be March 4.
The challenge to raise awareness of leukemia and lymphoma usually lasts the duration of February, with high schools competing nationwide to donate money. Whitman has claimed first place in the country for the last three years.
Despite cutbacks on LLS month to focus on the Every 15 Minutes underage drinking program, the leadership class hopes to still raise $50,000, senior class president Carolyn Hoover said.
So far, Battle of the Bands and Guy Auction have raised more money than last year, and the leadership class hopes that the extension will boost online donations.
