Wrestling trumps Quince Orchard 42–31

The wrestling team stayed perfect with a 42–31 victory over the Quince Orchard Cougars Friday, improving to 5–0 on the season.

170lb Marcos Solloso and 182lb Ezra Alexander both won their matches to open the meet. After the Vikings allowed a pin and win by forfeit, 220lb Jacob Winch and 113lb Clark Boinis notched wins to help the team regain its early lead.

However, the Cougars responded by winning three straight matches to give themselves a ten-point advantage.

Just as the meet appeared to be slipping away for the Vikings, the team mounted a comeback, winning the final four matches.

138lb James Bamberger started the run with an early pin, and 145lb Hamoon Shokoohinia added a decision to tie the match.

Shokoohinia said that staying level-headed and focused enabled him to win his decisive match.
“I knew that as captian, I had to go big and try to get as many points for my team as possible,” he said. “I wasn’t too worried about winning, but getting a big win was my ultimate goal.”

152lb Mitch Fenton followed with dominant pin that propelled the Vikings to a six-point lead, and 160lb Braedan McKee closed the meet with a technical fall to seal the victory.

Shokoohinia said the team was confident in its ability to bounce back, despite trailing late in the meet.

“Going into the 138 [lb match], we had four of the best wrestlers on the team coming up, so weren’t too worried about getting the win,” he said.

The team ends 2015 with an unblemished record, and open the new year when they host Blair on January 6.
