The baseball team ended a two-game skid by topping the St. Albans Bulldogs 6–1 Saturday, improving their record to 10–7.
The Vikings were first to score with a run in the second inning, driven in by first baseman Jack Prill.
They held their lead until the Bulldogs tied it with a run of their own in the top of the fifth inning.
However, the Vikes answered decisively, tallying five runs in the bottom of the inning and going through the entire batting order.
After outfielder Andrew Cashmere and catcher Patrick Cashmere drove in a combined three runs, the Vikings drew a bases-loaded walk, and Prill capped off the inning with an RBI double.
Prill said the team became more aggressive at the plate, leading to their success on offense.
“We all started to have better at-bats, attacking fastballs early in the count,” he said.
On the mound, pitcher Ezra Pine allowed just one run in five innings, and Sean Cook pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
The Vikings were motivated to win: not just to move up in the standings, but to get back on track mentally after a heartbreaking loss Friday.
“After a tough loss yesterday, we were determined to finish innings, and the game,” Prill said.
The Vikings will look to close out their season with another win when they travel to Clarksburg Tuesday for their final regular-season game.
