Boys volleyball falls to Magruder 3–0 amidst team absences

The boys volleyball team suffered their seventh loss of the season Thursday at Magruder, falling to the now 5–2 Colonels 3–0, despite having a well-played start and end to the game.

The full team was not present due to some members attending the music trip, including starters Grayson Jobst and back row Kueho Choi.

“We were missing Grayson and Kueho, who were two of our better passers, and I do think that passing was one of our weak points today,” setter Stefan Greenberg said. “I’m not going to blame it on that, because we certainly did a lot of things wrong today, but that certainly hurt.”

The boys dominated the first few minutes of the game, showing off a newfound confidence and boasting an impressive front line of hitters. However, the glory was short-lived, and the team lost momentum towards the end of the first set, losing 25–18.

“In every other game we’ve gotten off to a very slow start, but today we really came together for it,” Greenberg said.

All excitement from the first set was lost by the time they reached the second, and the Vikes fell 25–13 after numerous offensive and defensive errors.

The Colonels slowed down their offense in the third set, allowing the Vikings to keep the score tied up to 26–26, until finally losing 28–26.

“It was very disappointing. I really thought we could win that little tiebreak there,” Greenberg said.

The Vikes will continue their quest for a win Monday afternoon, when they take on the 2–5 Springbrook Blue Devils at home.
