UVA president John Casteen met with Virginia governor Bob McDonnell to discuss amending state law to require police to notify universities if students are arrested or convicted of crimes.Casteen thought of the proposal after police arrested UVA senior George Huguely for murdering girlfriend Yeardly Love May 3. Huguely faced charges in the fall of 2008 for public intoxication and resisting arrest.
According to the Washington Post, if the university knew about Huguely’s criminal past, they would’ve suspended or expelled him.
