bRAVE postponed from tomorrow to March 7

bRAVE will be postponed from tomorrow night to March 7 due to expected snow Saturday night, the administration announced this morning.

Mia Carmel, bRave committee chair, said three inches of sleet and snow are expected tomorrow. The weather could make roads unsafe, SGA President Mathewe Banda said.

“According to some sources, heavy snow begins at around 6 p.m. and continues throughout the night,” Banda said.

The change will come with logistical complications in terms of food, equipment and other event details. Senior class president Jonny Rasch said that food donors and parent volunteers will need to be contacted about their availability March 7.

“While we do have more time to plan the event, we now have a whole bunch of new problems that have to be taken care of,” Rasch said.

bRAVE could be cancelled entirely if it snows the weekend of March 7, but students in leadership said that’s unlikely. The event couldn’t be moved to Feb. 28 because performances of “Arcadia” are scheduled for that weekend, Banda said.

Despite the complications, students realize that safety is priority.

“It’s a little annoying, but if the issue is safety then it makes sense,” freshman Jenan El-Hifnawi said.

For those who weren’t able to make bRave this weekend, the new date is a welcome change.

“I wasn’t able to go before, but now that there’s a new date I can,” junior Adin Kramer said.

Over 900 students attended bRAVE last year, raising $27,000 for LLS. Leadership students said that the highly-anticipated event should run smoothly this year despite the scheduling issue.

“It’s what a lot of us at Whitman see as the staple event of the year,” Banda said.
