Ride On increases fares

The Metro board approved fare increases for the Ride On last month, setting regular transportation fees at $1.75.

Additionally, students won’t be able to ride free using their student IDs. They will now have to purchase a $2 pass to ride the bus free on weekdays.

Ride On bus riders currently pay $1.60 if they use a SmarTrip card and $1.80 if they use cash. The new $1.75 flat rate mirrors changes Metro trains underwent in March.

“I’m upset that they’re hiking the rate,”said senior Sofia Vitiello, a frequent SmarTrip user.

Among other approved changes is an increase in the SmarTrip fare on certain routes, including the Express Route 70 and the transfer from Metrorail to Ride On.
