The boys lacrosse team improved its record to 2-1 after pulling out a come-from-behind, overtime win against the Blair Blazers, Mar. 31. The final score was 6-5 in the Vikings’ favor.
Down 5-4 with less than three minutes left, the Vikes turned it on, scoring a goal just 15 seconds after putting all of their starters in to send the game to overtime.
In the overtime period, the Vikings fed the ball to attackman Aidan Darragh who was unable to score on his first two shots of the period. Finally, however, the Vikes were able to go on a fast break that gave Darragh the ball which he scored on to give the Vikings a sudden death, 6-5 win.
Going into the game, the Vikings felt like they could coast through it and win easily but were soon met by a tough Blair team they didn’t expect. With that, the Vikes started the game off slowly and were unable to get anything going and allowed the Blazers to score quickly until they finally tightened up at the end of the game for the win.
“It was an exhilarating feeling the way we came together as a team,” midfielder Lino Nunez said. “However, we agreed to never play like that again to ensure we don’t almost lose to a bad team for the rest of the season.”
The Vikes will now take on the Northwest Jaguars, Apr. 2, before returning home to face off against the Wootton Patriots in one of their first big test of the season, Fri. Apr. 4.
