The wrestling team gave one of its most dominant performances of the year, beating the Blake Bengals by a whopping 70-3 score on Saturday.
Blake was severely undermanned, as only nine wrestlers took part in the meet. As a result, five varsity wrestlers had to forfeit for Whitman.
Sophomore Hamoon Shookoohinia, competing in only his second varsity meet, dominated his opponent to get his first career win. Although few had much competition from their opponents, senior Harriet Symington found herself pinned down early in her match before rallying for a hard-fought victory.
Although the Bengals were no match for the Vikes’ powerful squad, the meet served as a crucial test for the difficult challenges to come, including a meet at Springbrook on Wednesday and a matchup against rivals B-CC and WJ and Saturday.
Senior Stephen Sharbaugh, who didn’t get a chance to compete in the meet because of Blake’s low attendance, said that although their opponents on Saturday didn’t put up a fight, it was an important victory.
“ It keeps us focused coming towards the end of the season,” Sharbaugh said.
