The 10-5 girls volleyball team fell to the 11-1 Wootton Patriots, 1-3, Oct. 21 in its annual Dig Pink Breast Cancer Fundraiser, which volleyball teams around the county organize each October in order to raise money for research.
Despite a disappointing loss, the Vikings were happier about the 140 dollars they raised than the loss they walked away with.
To raise money, the Vikes created a serving contest where a member from the audience had to pay two dollars to enter. Upon entering, the contestant had to have the best serve to win the bag of candy, which was made the prize.
The team all wore pink shirts to school in order to support the cause and to get more people to come to the fundraiser.
“Dig Pink is a great way to involve all parents and students in raising awareness for current problems,” defensive-specialist Amanda Azmi said.
The team looks forward to a dramatic close to its season against the 5-4 Paint Branch Panthers, Oct. 24 at home.
