Senior Keegan Barber won second place in Drexel University’s High School Photography contest with his digital photograph entitled “Mather Gorge.”
Out of the 1600 images high school students submitted, only 140 were chosen to be on display in Philadelphia for Drexel’s Gallery. Because Barber applied to Drexel, he said he hopes the accomplishment will be a valuable addition to his application.
Barber said he knew his picture would be a strong candidate because it also won the “Keep Montgomery County Beautiful” contest. The image illustrates the Potomac River flowing over boulders as sun sets in the background. Barber said that he often submits his work to contests.
“The more you get your work out to the greater community and the world, you get a better judgment on your photos,” he said.
Students in advanced photography teacher Marjorie Scott’s class are required to submit a picture to at least one contest per quarter.
