The speech and debate team won two championships Dec. 17-19 at the Blake School’s John Edie Holiday Debate Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn.
Seniors Jesse Freeman and Max Barnhart won the Public Forum tournament, beating 86 other teams from around the country. They continued to dominate in Round Robin, an invitation-only tournament, and placed second. Two other Whitman teams finished in the top ten.
Senior Daniel Imas won first place out of 216 debaters in the Lincoln-Douglas tournament, winning each of his twelve rounds.
“I think my success, as well as the team’s success, was mostly a product of hard work and good coaching,” Freeman said. “Hopefully, we will transition into future tournaments with some added national circuit swagger and a reminder of how hard work pays off.”
