Varsity girls soccer defeated the Northwest Jaguars 1-0, Sept 29, improving to a perfect 6-0.
Both teams fought hard in the first half, but neither could produce a goal before halftime. Six offside penalties hindered the Lady Vikes and the teams entered halftime knotted at zero.
With only seven minutes left in the game, midfielder Tessa Morrison ran into the Northwest goalie while trying to get a shot off, and the ball ended up trickling inside the mouth of the goal for the only score of the night.
Goalkeeper Hannah Sasscer provided another stellar night of defense and made a crucial diving save with only three minutes remaining in the game, keeping the Jags off the scoreboard. The shutout was Sasscer’s sixth of the season, which ties the current Whitman record.
The Lady Vikes will play cross-town rival Churchill in their next game on Oct 1 at home.
