The tennis team found success at the state championship Friday May 28. The girls doubles players, Sarah Macy and Nicky Gottret, got 1st place, while the boys doubles players, Pablo Gottret and Aaron Hoffman, got 2nd. Macy and Gottret entered the tournament as the first seed, and defeated the Walter Johnson Wildcats 6-4, 6-4 to earn their state title.
Gottret and Hoffman fell to the Wootton Patriots in the championship match 7-6, 3-6, 7-5 . Despite losing to the Patriots, the boys beat the second seeded team, Franklin, on their way to the finals.
Although both Gottret and Macy play as singles players in the regular season, they agreed as a doubles pair.
“Playing doubles seems to be more fun because you have someone else there to keep you up and focused,” Macy said.
With both players returning to the team next year, the team will look to defend its title next season.
