The girls lacrosse team (11–3) was eliminated from the playoffs Monday, falling to the Churchill Bulldogs 10–6.
From the start of the contest, the Vikes and Bulldogs traded goals, and both teams were unable to take a substantial lead. The squad was able to keep the game close behind the play of their defense.
“The defense played really well and everyone played really hard until the very last whistle,” midfielder Ellen Middleton said.
Midfielder Maddy Kostopulos scored multiple goals for the Vikes, and helped the squad set up their offense. On defense, goalie Claire Hisle blocked multiple Bulldog shots and effectively cleared the ball out of the Vikes’ zone.
The Vikes kept the game close throughout the match because of high intensity on offense and defense, Middleton said.
Despite cutting the Bulldogs’ lead to one with minutes remaining and multiple comeback attempts, the Vikes were unable to overcome the Bulldogs lead, falling 10–6.
The squad finished the season 11–3.
