The girls lacrosse team (4–1) shut down the previously undefeated Wootton Patriots 12–4 Tuesday behind aggressive offense and tenacious defense.
The Vikes got off to another quick start, jumping out to an early 5–3 lead.
The squad shut down the Patriots early on due to a stellar performance from goalie Claire Hisle. Hisle blocked multiple Patriots shots, making seven saves in the game.
“Claire really stepped up, but we also were able to communicate well on defense and stop them from taking shots,” defender Ellen Middleton said.
The Vikes’ pressure on defense helped hold the Patriots to their season low in goals scored.
On attack, aggressive play by midfielder Eden Gray and other Vikings created key opportunities for the team. Gray ended the game with a season high five goals and secured multiple draws for the team.
The Vikings were also able to open up the Patriots’ defense using fastbreaks. The multiple transition attacks prevented the Patriots from setting up their offense and executing plays.
The Vikes’ next game is Thursday at 7:15 against Churchill.
