The Quince Orchard Cougars shut down the football team 48–18, falling to 3–6 on the season.
Though the Cougars entered the match up with just one loss, the Vikings maintained a determined mentality, fullback Dawson MacKay said.
“We expected to go out and compete against a good Quince Orchard team,” he said. “We just needed to leave it all out on the field.”
Despite their positive mindset, the Vikings fell behind quickly, allowing two touchdowns in the first quarter. Their defensive woes continued as the Cougars added three more scores before halftime, including 2 special teams touchdowns, to enter the break with a 35–6 deficit.
MacKay cited injuries as one reason for the team’s struggles. Sidelined Vikes included quarterback Matt Clayton and receiver Alex Hilsenrath.
However, MacKay also said that the injuries provided other players with the opportunity to showcase their talent.
Backup quarterback Jack McClelland amassed 212 passing yards and two rushing scores in his first start of the season, and receiver Carter Hughes compiled 40 yards and a touchdown.
In the second half, the Vikings stiffened their defense, allowing just thirteen points while scoring twice in fourth quarter.
The Vikings will close out the season against the rival B-CC Barons (3–6) Friday at 6:30
