The baseball team’s season came to an end Wednesday night as they fell 15–4 to the top-seeded Blair Blazers in the sectional finals.
The Blazers opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. In the top of the second, the Vikes retaliated, with Jack Prill scoring a run. The Blazers fought back, up 3–1 by the bottom of the second.
Second baseman Andrew Cashmere knocked in a run in the top of the third to cut the Vikes’ deficit to one. In the top of the fourth, shortstop Ian Atkinson hit an RBI single to tie the game; soon after, Prill scored on a passed ball to put the Vikings in the lead.
However, this lead was short-lived: the Blazers scored a whopping 12 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Vikings went through four pitchers in the process, unable to prevent the outburst.
Unfortunately, another comeback was not in the cards for the Vikes, as the game ended after the top of the fifth due to the mercy rule.
Despite the loss, the Vikings finished their outstanding season with a 13–8 regular season and playoff record, and look to make it back to sectional finals if not for further for a third straight year once play begins again next season.
