The Vikings secured their first playoff victory of the season with a 24-3 blowout of the Einstein Titans Wednesday evening.
The Vikings’ offense was lead by attacker Richard Miller, who contributed a record-shattering 11 goals in the contest.
Miller’s performance broke the team record for most goals recorded by a single player in a game. The record was previously held by Miller’s older brother, Grant Miller, who had scored nine back in 2013.
“It’s a whole team effort to get the ball in the goal,” Miller said.
Wednesday’s game was the final home game the Vikings will play this year. For many seniors, it was an emotional moment.
“We’ve been playing with some of these guys for four years now, and we just finished our last home game. It’s definitely bittersweet,” said attacker and team co-captain Alex Hosker. “We got a great win, now we’re headed into round two of the playoffs, going strong.”
The Vikings advance to the next stage of the playoffs facing Walter Johnson on Friday. The Vikings hope their aggressive style of play and teamwork will propel them deep in the playoffs.
“When we play as a team, when we pass, when we look for the extra man, that always leads to goals. When we play as a team,” said midfielder Geoff Baneth. “We’re truly one of the best teams in the county, and that’s whats going to take us far into playoffs,”
