The Vikes offense scored four goals against the stingy Patriot defense, as midfielder Alex Hilsenrath found the back of the net twice.
The Vikings were behind most of the game, trailing 2–1 at halftime and 6–3 entering the fourth quarter. Whitman scored back-to-back goals late in the game, but it wasn’t enough the overcome the Patriots.
“We couldn’t really capitalize on that run,” said Hilsenrath.
Midfielder Douglas Bruchalski and attacker Alex Hosker each added one goal.
The Patriots had a potent offense, which was fueled by transition opportunities, Hilsenrath said.
“They got a bunch of fast breaks and opportunities and they scored, which really hurt us,” Hilsenrath said.
The Vikings will return to play after spring break when they take on the Churchill Bulldogs at home April 13. Hilsenrath views the Bulldogs as a challenge, but otherwise foresees a good season for the team.
“We should be able to handle the rest of the teams we play up until playoffs,” said Hilsenrath.
