The girls basketball team demolished the Northwest Jaguars 60-8 in Wednesday’s home opener, improving their record to 5-0 on the season.
“We approached last night’s game with the mindset that we were going to work on ourselves and improve on our weaknesses, knowing that it was not going to be a competitive game,” said forward Hannah Niles, who had a game-high 18 points. “We shared the ball really well and were able to focus on our offensive sets.”
Forward Betsy Knox also contributed to the onslaught with 11 points, followed by forward Marie Hatch and guard Abby Meyers who had nine and eight points respectively.
The Vikings came out firing on all cylinders and outscored the Jaguars 17-2 in both the first and second quarters. They continued to pile it on against their opponents in the second half and didn’t give up any points to the Jaguars at all in the fourth quarter.
The team hopes to go to 6-0 when they host the tough 3-2 Churchill Bulldogs Friday.
“Going into our game [against Churchill], we are feeling really confident coming off of our five-game win streak,” Niles said. “We will be prepared to play Whitman defense and stop their offensive sets.”
