The girls varsity basketball team defeated the Potomac School of Virginia 49-43 Saturday in the Tina Thompson Classic.
“I think we came out pretty slow at the beginning and had trouble adjusting to their fast-paced penetration game,” said forward Betsy Knox, who scored six points. “But as soon as we figured that our and our defense started to pick up, we were able to play a lot better.”
Guard Abby Meyers led the team in scoring again with 14 points, followed by forward Marie Hatch with 11 points on a team-high five field goals. Meyers was also voted tournament MVP.
After trailing 15-13 after the first quarter, the Vikings dominated the second quarter and outscored their opponents 14-7, stretching their lead to 27-22 at the half. The back and forth second half ended with the Vikings on top from a 12-7 run.
The girls will look to extend their season record to 3-0 when they travel to face the 1-1 Wootton Patriots tonight.
