The girls basketball team thrashed the hosting Rockville Rams 67-38 Tuesday, improving to 2-0 on the season.
Viking guard Abby Meyers led the team with a game-high of 20 points, going 6-6 from the free throw line. Forwards Hannah Niles and Betsy Knox contributed with 12 and 10 points respectively.
“We won last night’s game by a good amount, but we didn’t play well the whole time,” said forward Marie Hatch, who scored nine points. “We had some rough patches and made far too many errors.”
The Vikings were only up 10-7 after the first quarter, and in the second, the Rams tied the game at 16. The Lady Vikes bounced back from the quick scare and managed to stretch their lead before halftime to 25-16.
After the break, the Vikings came out on fire and continued to dominate until the final whistle. The girls outscored their opponents 22-11 and 20-11 in the third and fourth quarters respectively.
“We got the result that we needed, but didn’t play up to our expectations,” Hatch said. “This game will continue to motivate us to work harder.”
In their next game the team will compete in the Tina Thompson Classic Saturday versus the Potomac School at St. John’s High School in D.C.
