Boys soccer lost their final game of the regular season 3-0 on a road trip to New Jersey against St. Benedicts Prep.
The Vikes played a solid game, but were narrowly outmatched by the private school. Despite the loss Whitman is still poised for a deep run in the playoffs.
Both teams had their share of offensive possession in the first half with the defenses being pressured early. However, the Vikes’ defense cracked first, and St. Benedicts was up 1-0 at the half.
In the second half the Vikings offense continued to put on the pressure, but was unable to score against the solid St. Benedicts defense. Whitman’s defense looked strong, but was unable to stop a highly potent St. Benedicts offensive attack, leaving the final score at 3-0.
Coming off of the loss, the Vikes are still ready for the playoffs. Several strong wins against county opponents has allowed Whitman to enter the postseason ranked number two in their division. The Vikings hope to use their fast and aggressive play to make a run for the state title.
“I think that we need to maintain our chemistry and keep playing the style of soccer that has been so effective for us,” captain Jeff Rosenberg said. “Fast possession and moving the ball quickly all over the field are crucial if we want to accomplish our goals.
