In their first match of the season, the girls’ tennis team thrashed the lower division Wheaton Knights 7-0 this Friday.
Despite playing the division four Knights, the team maintained a hard-working mentality going into the match up, third doubles player Maggie McGowan said.
“We prepare for every match, no matter what division [the opposing team is in], the same way,” she said. “We try not to sink down to their skill level and just play our own game.”
The Vikings won all their matches in straight sets, an impressive accomplishment given that three of the four singles players are underclassmen.
“We all played really well,” captain and first doubles player Ali Dane said. “I think we will be pretty successful this season, but we will have some tough competition against teams like Wootton and Churchill.”
The girls look to improve to 2-0 when they host the Quince Orchard Cougars in their home opener Monday.
