Despite a hard-fought battle, the softball team lost 9-2 to the Churchill Bulldogs this Thursday, eliminating them from playoff contention and ending their season.
Although the team lost, Starting pitcher Lauren Furst said that the season was still a great time in the end.
“Our strength this season was being able to battle through a game, even if we had a rough start,” Furst said. “This season was also so special because [the team was] close and had so much fun together!”
The Vikings posted comeback efforts in the fifth and sixth innings, stringing together three hits each inning, but the hits only resulted in one run.
Second baseman Erin Ishimoto and leftfielder Gennie Anderson both got on base three times each, and starting pitcher Lauren Furst hit two singles.
Catcher Olivia Weals displayed a strong defensive effort, throwing out two Bulldogs and making a catch off of a bunt, keeping the Vikings in the game.
“This was a building season for the program,” coach Anne Marie O’Donoghue said. “The girls learned a lot and worked hard. We look forward to next season.”
