Boys lacrosse falls to Wootton

Varsity boys lacrosse fell to the Wootton Patriots 9-7, April 20, dropping its record to 4-2.

The Patriots took an early lead only one minute into the game with a close-range shot. They scored another goal before the end of the first quarter while keeping the Vikes off the scoreboard.

However, midfielder Ross Koehn scored an unassisted goal less than one minute into the second to put the Vikings within one.

Wootton responded with a goal two minutes later, but Koehn scored again just five seconds afterwards.

The Patriots scored another goal soon after and neither team scored for the remainder of the half.

The Vikings entered halftime trailing 4-2.

The boys started the second half strong with a goal from midfielder Will Bumpers, assisted by attacker Pat Slawta, but the Patriots responded three minutes later with another close-range shot.

Slawta scored on a clean-up goal three minutes later, but Wootton scored two goals before the end of the third quarter, including a long distance shot that found the upper corner of the goal with only four seconds remaining on the game clock.

After back and forth scoring in the fourth quarter which included Koehn’s third goal of the night, the Vikings lost 9-7.

Although the Vikes couldn’t pull out a victory, the game will prove useful once playoffs roll around. The boys were without starters Booey Ghani and Jordan Karr, who will pose as serious offensive threats once they return from injury.
