The 0-1 boys basketball team fell to the 3-2 Georgetown Prep Little Hoyas, 62-42, in its season opener Fri. Dec. 6.
The game was a hard-fought, back and forth battle until the fourth quarter when Prep took control and went on a 13-0 run, eventually winning by 20 points.
Neither team dominated the first half and the Vikes only trailed by one basket heading into the half, 26-24.
The second half then started off the same way until the boys found themselves in a 36-27 hole towards the end of the third quarter. However, the Vikings were able to battle back and pull to within two again until Prep sophomore Brian Dempsey led the Little Hoyas, scoring all 13 of his points in the fourth quarter and breaking the game open for good.
“We have to work on our shooting a lot,” forward Riley Shaver said. “Without us shooting so poorly the game was ours to win.”
Guard Kyle Depollar led the Vikes with 15 points in his first game since transferring from The Heights school this year.
The Vikings’ next game is Tues. Dec. 10 at Rockville against the Rams before they come back for their home opener, Fri. Dec. 13, against local private school rival Landon.
