The 0-1 girls basketball team faced a disappointing outcome in its season opener at home last night, losing 41-54 to the Good Counsel Falcons.
The first quarter started off slowly, with the Vikes trailing a few points behind the Falcons. During the second quarter, however, the score jumped to a 25-16 lead for the Falcons, leaving the Vikes to desperately try and even up the score before halftime. The strong offense for the Vikings succeeded, leading the team to a 26-25 lead right before halftime.
After halftime, the Falcons played well offensively as they quickly went ahead and held onto an eight-point lead. Despite many good shot attempts by the Vikes, including three three-pointers by point-guard Nicole Fleck, the game ended as a win for the Falcons by 13 points.
The Vikes look to improve their record to 1-1 on Dec. 10 when they battle the Rockville Rams at home at 7 p.m.
