The 7-1 girls volleyball team battled the 7-1 Churchill Bulldogs on Oct. 8 for the division champions title and after a hard fought match lost, 3-2, by a heartbreaking two points in the third set.
Both teams gave it their all for the title, especially the Vikes who have not won the title in twelve years.
When the score was tied at 2-2, the tension was felt as both teams started the third set. The set was defined by ties throughout the entire set with no team taking a lead.
As the set drew closer to the end, the score was tied at 15-15. In volleyball it is played on a win by two system so each team fought for the last two points. The victory ended up going to the Bulldogs, despite Viking protests of bad line-calls to the refs.
“We gave our hearts in that game, and we played better than we have ever played,” defense specialist Amanda Azmi said. “The final scoreboard did not reflect our overall success but we left the gym with our heads up and our motivation higher.”
The Vikes take on the 2-7 Clarksburg Coyotes, Oct 11th at home.
