Going Out Guide: Summer edition

After a stressful school year filled with homework, studying, and more homework, students finally have two and a half glorious months off that they have been dreaming of since September. For those who are home for the summer, it may be tempting to hang out with Netflix every day for hours on end. Why not make it a memorable summer by going out and experiencing some of the greatest events the area has to offer? Here are a few ideas to help keep you entertained all summer long:

Concerts

Enjoy live music on the lawn at Merriweather Post Pavilion, which is hosting many great artists this summer, including The xx and Grizzly Bear Sun. June 16, FUN. Sat. July 20, The Lumineers Fri. July 26 and The Killers Sat. Aug. 10.

Put on your suit and tie and go see Justin Timberlake and Jay Z at M & T Bank Stadium in Baltimore Thurs. Aug. 8 as a part of their Legends of the Summer Tour.

Food & Games

The National Building Museum will offer two nine-hole indoor mini-golf courses designed by the area’s top architects, designers and contractors from now through Labor Day. Admission to the course is $5, or $3 with the purchase of full-price museum admission. After an awesome game of putt-putt, head over to the museum’s West Lawn, where Hill Country’s Backyard Barbeque will be available Wednesday through Sunday, with live American folk music on Friday and Saturday nights.

It’s the local chocoholic’s dream come true: the famed Israeli chocolate restaurant chain Max Brenner will be opening a location in downtown Bethesda mid-June. This location will be a “Chocolate Bar” and will serve desserts all day.

Sports

This year’s Redskins Training Camp will be held in Richmond, VA July 25-Aug. 16. Fans are encouraged to watch the team’s daily practices for free and meet the players afterwards.

Find some peanuts and cracker jacks, and catch the Washington Nationals at home plate this summer. Nationals Park will host games through September for the regular season. Single game tickets are available online.

Festivals

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival will be held on the National Mall June 26-30 and July 3-7 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will bring together cultural experts from around the world to share their heritage through performances, craft demonstrations, discussions, hands-on educational activities and more.
