The baseball team lost its first game of the season at home March 21, falling to the Poolesville Falcons 11-6.
The Vikes jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third inning led by outfielder Max Steinhorn and third basemen Andrew Castagnetti. Despite good pitching early on, the Vikes were unable to maintain their momentum as Poolesville scored nine consecutive runs.
Multiple defensive errors and the Vikes’ stagnant offense allowed Poolesville to get back into the game and eventually take the lead. Despite two pitching changes, the team was unable to stop its skid.
“We haven’t had much in-game experience this year,” first basemen Dan Duffy said. “In order to be successful we have to strengthen every facet of our game.”
The Vikes hope to even their record when they take on the 1-0 BCC Barons and the 0-1 Walter Johnson Wildcats in consecutive games March 25.
