The 13-1 Alabama Crimson Tide routed the 12-1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 42-14 in the BCS Championship Jan. 7, winning its third title in four years.
The loss was an embarrassing performance for the previously undefeated, first-ranked Fighting Irish, and solidified the SEC’s increasing dominance in college football. The Crimson racked over 500 yards of total offense, the most that Notre Dame has allowed all year.
For a game that was thought to be a close match-up, the contest was overwhelmingly lopsided, with Bama punching in a 82-yard drive for a touchdown only three minutes in, the longest drive the Irish has let up this year.
Bama’s defense completely incapacitated the Fighting Irish, holding them to zero points until late in the third quarter.
Running back Eddie Lacy rampaged for 140 yards and was awarded offensive MVP, while AJ McCarron threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns, though some thought his performance was outshined by the presence of his girlfriend, Miss Alabama Katherine Webb.
ESPN announcer Brent Musburger, who is 73 years old, was one example of a Webb fan, calling her a “lovely lady.” Additionally, Webb trended on Twitter, with people tweeting for her to be named MVP.
McCarron will go down in the books as a QB legend at Alabama, along with Joe Namath. The question is, will it be due to the numbers that he put up last night, or will it be due to the fact that he’s dating one of the most attractive girls in the nation?
