Field hockey beats Churchill on Senior Night, 1-0

The Vikes came back from a hard loss last year to overcome the 7-4 Churchill Bulldogs Oct. 15 with a score of 1-0, boosting their record to 6-5.

Opening Senior Night, the field hockey team presented decorated posters to each senior with words of encouragement and praise, as they celebrated their last home game of the season.

The first half was tough on both sides due to a downpour of rain and neither team was able to score.

The Vikes stepped it up in the second half, intensifying their aggression on both offense and defense, scoring a goal and managing to keep their lead.

The defense was effective in helping the Vikes maintain possession on offense, attack Kate O’Brien said.

“They are really strong and held them off extremely well,” O’Brien said. “They kept the ball on Churchill’s side of the field pretty much the whole game.”

The team hopes to finish off its regular season with a win against the 2-9 Einstein Titans Oct. 19.
