A suspect was arrested in connection with the Sept. 29 mugging of three students in Bethesda. The suspect, a 16-year-old male from Rockville, was charged with attempted robbery and second-degree assault.
Acting on a tip, police arrested the suspect Oct. 4, said Montgomery County Police Department public information officer Britta Thomas.
The three victims – two juniors and one senior – were approached by six teenagers while walking through the pedestrian tunnel under Wisconsin Ave. One assailant grabbed one of the victims and demanded money, then beat a second victim who tried to intervene.
The attacker and his accomplices left without getting any money. The injured victim was treated at the emergency room and released.
The mugging was the third violent incident this year in the Bethesda tunnel, a part of the Capital Crescent Trail, according to the Washington Post.
