Boys soccer shuts out Churchill, 3-0

The boys soccer team bounced back from its first loss Oct. 3, beating the 3-4-1 Churchill Bulldogs 3-0 and improving its record to 6-1.

The stands were full for community night, with elementary and middle school students gaining free entry with a paying parent.

The Vikes executed their game plan of possessing the ball and pressuring the Churchill players, which paid off when forward Luke Barber scored off a penalty kick late in the first half.

Despite leading by a goal at halftime, Barber said that the team didn’t finish as much as it should have, but started converting more efficiently in the second half, when players continued to press the Bulldogs.

“They got pretty angry by the end of the game,” Barber said, adding that the Bulldogs were fouling a lot and getting disorganized.

Whitman’s other two goals came from midfielder Davey Mason and defender Nathan Rackstraw, helping them put the Bulldogs back in their cage.

The Vikes will look to continue rebuilding a win streak Oct. 5 when they take on the 6-1-2 Richard Montgomery Rockets away.
