Girls soccer outscores Poolesville, 2-1

The girls soccer team beat the 3-0 Poolesville Falcons Sept. 13 with a final score of 2-1, boosting its record to 3-0.

Midfielder Aliza Wolfe scored within the first two minutes of the game, setting the tone for the Vikes.

Though they didn’t score the rest of the first half, the Vikes created many other opportunities to set up each other for shots on goal, midfielder Nicole Fleck said.

While staying strong on defense, the Vikings also scored another goal about halfway into the second half when forward Emma Anderson slid the ball into the lower corner of the net.

The Vikes kept control of the ball in the second half, moving the ball all over the field and leaving Poolesville chasing.

“Our defense did a really good job switching, so every time we passed it back to them, the ball would go back to Lottie and then she would switch it to the other side,” Fleck said.  “In only the first half, we switched the ball 11 times.”

Near the end of the game, the Falcons broke through the defense to score. This was the first time since 2010 that the Vikings had given up a goal in the regular season, as they shut out every team in the division last year. However, the team ultimately kept its composure and solidified its victory.

The undefeated Vikes look to continue their winning streak Sept. 20 at home against the 2-1 Magruder Colonels.
