Diversity Assembly celebrates cultures through song and dance

The fringe skirts of the African Dancers flew as they danced at the annual Diversity Assembly today. The assembly showcased performances from yesterday’s International Night.

During the assembly, freshman Angelica Greco won $750 for her first place essay in the George Washington Institute for Religious Freedom essay contest. Sophomore Beatriz Atsavapranee also received $500 for placing second, and freshman Scott Singer won $250 for third place.

The acts included karate, Latin dancers, Korean songs and Asian hip-hop, among others. Senior Soran Zangana played the tabla in the opening act of the show. He and his Pangaea band mates performed the Pakistani song “To Ku Hua.”

“We showed the best of the show,” said Zangana. “This year was wonderful, and hopefully next year, we’ll have an even better show.”
