It’s official: Peyton Manning and the Colts are parting ways after 13 seasons.
Everyone knew this split was bound to happen. The last-place Colts are about to draft rising star Andrew Luck, pushing the veteran Manning to the side.
The Colts and Manning have had fairly good relationship that has produced a Superbowl. Now it’s another team’s turn to reap the benefits of Peyton’s unmatched leadership and talent.
And one of the teams bidding for the star is the Redskins. With Rex Grossman not putting up the numbers they need, the Skins are looking for a new quarterback. But many people are questioning whether Peyton is the right fit.
Some say that a better match for the Skins would be Baylor’s Robert Griffin III, a college football star who is available in the upcoming draft. Their argument is that the Skins need a young and talented quarterback to build the program around, not some veteran that will be gone in three or four years.
I say that there is no harm in going after Manning. He’s an eventual Hall-of-Famer who will bring a lot to the offense. The Skins don’t need to empty the bank for him, and if another team gets Manning, the Skins can just focus on getting Griffin.
It’s a win-win situation: for the first time in long time, the Redskins can’t lose.
