Hockey tops Walkersville, 4-1

The hockey team defeated the Walkersville Lions, 4-1, Feb. 21, allowing the team to advance to the semi-finals of the state tournament.

Despite multiple turnovers in the defensive zone, the Vikes won the first period 2-0. Ethan Weintraub started the run when he scored coming off the assist from Sonja Stojic and Lucas Karron halfway through the period. Only minutes later, Stojic recorded a goal of her own coming off the feed from Colin Rankin.

After a scoreless second period, Aidan Neustadtl sparked a run for the Vikes early in the third period, scoring a beautiful wrist shot power play goal coming from Karron and Alexander Gandolfo. Neustadtl had another power play goal, this time unassisted, later in the period.

Goalie Matt Bruns was a brick wall in net yet again, saving 22 of the 23 shots on net throughout the game. The Lions’ only goal was scored in the middle of the third period.
