The hockey team defeated the Wootton Patriots, 3-2, Feb. 13, advancing to the second round of the playoffs.
The Vikes started off hot, when Alex Gandolfo scored coming off an assist from Andy Dexter just over a minute into the game. Shortly after, Ethan Weintraub had a goal, assisted by Lucas Karron and Aidan Neustadtl.
The second period belonged to the Patriots, scoring the only goal of the period with a minute remaining, due to the Vikings numerous penalties.
The third period was even, with both teams scoring one goal. The Patriots goal came moments into the period, for another power-play goal, their second of the night, tying the game at 2-2. However, the Vikes fought back. Gandolfo scored another goal with just over three minutes remaining in the game, assisted by Karron and Seth Weintraub.
The Vikes face off against defending state champions Churchill Bulldogs for their third meeting of the season, Feb. 16. The Bulldogs were victorious both meetings.
