The hockey team fell to the Churchill Bulldogs for the second time this season, 5-4, dropping its record to 8-2 Feb. 10.
Michael Voehl scored the first goal of the game coming off an assist from Seth Butler. But the Bulldogs fought back, evening the score with three minutes left in the period.
The Bulldogs scored two consecutive goals to start out the second period. With just over three minutes left in period, Butler put one past Churchill goalie Jake Sherker by an assist from Lucas Karron.
Only minutes into the third period, Seth Weintraub scored an unassisted goal to even out the score at three. With just over five minutes remaining, the Bulldogs scored another goal due to a power-play. Later in the period, the Vikes scored on a power-play of their own from by Butler. As time was winding down, the Bulldogs sealed the game with an empty net goal.
Captain Aidan Neustadtl notes that the team’s morale is at a good level heading into post-season play.
“We were obviously all disappointed losing today, but I think everyone is excited about playoffs and pretty determined to go far,” he said. “The team seems to be clicking pretty well.”
The Vikings face off against the Wootton Patriots in the first round of the playoffs Feb. 13 at the Gardens Ice House in Laurel.
