Girls basketball bounces past Wootton, 44-40

The girls basketball team defeated the 4-13 Wootton Patriots, 44-40, Jan. 30, improving its record to 10-6 on the season.

The Vikes were led by guard Rachel Sisco and the team consistently converted on open shooting attempts.

After taking the first quarter 11-5, the Patriots offense began to click, outscoring the Vikings 15-9 in the second quarter.

After the halftime break, however, the Vikes found their rhythm again and began knocking down shots. Another showcase of great half-court interior defense limited the Patriots to just five points in the third, with the Vikes leading 32-25 heading into the fourth quarter.

Both teams seemed to match each other’s points in the fourth, with the Patriots surging to what looked like  possible fourth quarter comeback before the Vikes battled back. Although the Vikes lost the quarter 15-12, they were able to score enough to lock up the win.

Sisco impressively led all scorers with an astounding 19 points, including three 3-pointers.

“It’s great winning two games in a row,” guard Kim Durante said. “Hopefully we can just keep the streak going for our final games.”

The team looks to keep the streak alive when it travels to Richard Montgomery to face the 5-11 Rockets, Feb. 1.
