On the same night that the girls JV basketball team won its 50th consecutive win, the varsity girls team defeated the 1-14 BCC Barons, 52-31, Jan. 27, raising its record to 9-6.
Both teams came out ready to play, trading points with one another throughout the first quarter. After a series of back-to-back points, the score was tied at 10 going into the second quarter.
However, the Vikes offense began to click again, and the team outscored the Barons 16-9, giving them a 26-19 lead heading into halftime.
Similar to the second quarter, the Vikes outscored the Barons in the third and fourth quarters, hitting a total of six three pointers throughout the game. The Vikes lockdown defense held the Barons to just five and seven points in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
Center Linn Bumpers and guard Brittany Fleck led all scorers with 11 points, with Fleck going two for two from the foul line.
The team looks for another victory when its travels to Wootton to face the 4-12 Patriots Jan. 30.
